Newell's Station

Seymour began as Newell's Station, a frontier station built by pioneer Samuel Newell in 1783, and the first court of Sevier County, under the State of Franklin, met there in March 1785. In the 19th century it was Trundles Crossroads, where the road from Sevierville split toward Knoxville and Maryville. When the Knoxville, Sevierville and Eastern Railway opened in December 1909, the station was named for chief engineer Charles Seymour.
