Halls Crossroads, known locally as Halls, is a community of 10,341 people (2020) in northern Knox County, a suburb of Knoxville along Emory Road.
What that means for your electrical
Halls has a mix of mid-century homes and newer subdivisions. Mid-century houses often have smaller panels and few outlets per room, which leads to overloaded circuits and extension cords; see outlets and GFCI protection. Many houses have unfinished basements where owners want lighting, outlets and a workshop added.
Along the ridge
Homes on the slopes of Black Oak Ridge can have long driveway and yard runs where outdoor lighting needs proper buried wiring. Long runs to outbuildings and well houses need properly buried wiring and GFCI protection.
Emory Road and the Hall family
In 1785 the North Carolina General Assembly ordered militiamen to clear a road toward Nashville at least ten feet wide; that route is today's Emory Road through Halls. Thomas Hall, a Revolutionary War veteran from Orange County, North Carolina, arrived around 1796 and settled on the north side of Black Oak Ridge, giving the community its name. Older farmhouses from the area's long history may have had wiring added in stages over many decades, which is worth having checked; see electrical inspections.
